The DC Public Library offers a variety of book clubs for residents to gather and discuss their love of books. Below is a list of just some of the clubs offered. Please note that sometimes book club events are canceled or rescheduled due to unforeseen circumstances. Please check the calendar to make sure an event is scheduled on the date you wish to attend. You can also call the library where the event is scheduled. If you'd like to be part of a book club but can't make it it to the meetings, we also have a number of online book clubs that you can find on our Read Feed page.
The Merchant of Venice Series
In partnership with the Folger Theatre selected DC Public Library locations will host a series of book clubs discussing Shakespeare’s play The Merchant of Venice through summer 2016. Copies of the play provided by the Folger Shakespeare Library. See scheduled events in this series here.
Books & Bars Book Club
Join us at Gordon Biersch at 9th and F streets NW on the third Wednesday of each month for a modern-day book club. Books & Bars is a book club that promises great food, drinks, a comfortable atmosphere and great discussion on today's most intriguing books. Capitol Hill Reads
This group meets on the third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. to discuss recent literary fiction titles. We frequent a variety of spots throughout the Capitol Hill neighborhood including the Southeast and Northeast libraries, community centers, restaurants, and coffee shops. Cleveland Park Library Mystery Book Club
This club meets the first Thursday of each month at Teaism, 400 8th Street, NW, downstairs [Archive/Navy Memorial Metro]. The group chooses the books each month, two to three months in advance. All types of crime writing are considered, from cozies to noir. Monthly notice is sent by e-mail. You don't have to join the group to receive the e-mail. Francis Gregory Adult Book Club
This club for adults only meets every fourth Wednesday at Francis Gregory Neighborhood Library. Selections include fiction (mystery, romance, history, short stories, classics, etc.) and nonfiction (biography, travel, finance, etc.). The facilitator invites suggestions from customers, book club members and staff. Past selections include The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers, The Wake of the Wind by California Cooper and The Audacity of Hope by Barack Obama. Call 202-727-6044 for more information.
Georgetown Book Club
We meet on the third Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library branch of DC Public Library. We make copies of the books we read available at the Georgetown Neighborhood Library, so there is no need to purchase titles. Anyone who likes to read literary fiction and the occasional nonfiction title is welcome, as are suggestions for upcoming titles. Graphic Novel Book Club at Southwest Library

Heroes of Cinema
Are you a film buff? Are you looking to nurture your budding love of film? Come to the Southeast Neighborhood Library and join a monthly discussion of a film from DC Public Library's exciting online streaming resources including the Criterion Collection and InstantFlix. Each month's conversation will revolve around a different film -- you can view the film ahead of time on our website using your library card! During the discussion, we will have the film queued up so that we can refer to specific scenes. Moveable Feast Classics Book Group
The Moveable Feast Classics Book Group meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m., rotating between Georgetown, Palisades, and Cleveland Park Libraries. This is an opportunity to revisit an old favorite, finally get to something you’ve always meant or wanted to read, or explore something new to you. We have recently read Awakening, by Kate Chopin, Mrs. Dalloway, by Virginia Woolf, Death in Venice, by Thomas Mann, and Siddartha, by Hermann Hesse. The Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library Book to Art Club meets the fourth Tuesday of every month in Conference Room 1 on the lower level at 7 p.m. We discuss both books and art, alternating between fiction and nonfiction titles each month, and analyzing works of art related to our selected books. Palisades Library Book Club
During the Palisades Neighborhood Library renovation, the Palisades Book Club will meet at Georgetown Neighborhood Library, beginning March 21, 2017.
This club meets once a month on the third Tuesday at the Palisades Neighborhood Library. The club reads a wide variety of fiction and nonfiction with occasional forays into poetry and plays. The Southwest Book Discussion is held the final Saturday of the month at 1 p.m. Featured titles have included biography and memoir, history, social science and fiction.
