Release your inner artist this Black History Month! Books to Brushes couples participatory reading activities with instructor-led painting sessions. In honor of Black History Month, children and teens will read and discuss a black history related book and paint a picture inspired by it. The session will be led by founder and teaching artist, Anike Robinson. Ms. Robinson is a Washington, D.C. based interdisciplinary artist with a master's degree in secondary education. She uses art as a means to support literacy in the classroom for grades K-12.

Enjoy swapability at the expense of your opponents and win weekly bragging rights.  Players will meet from 12 noon until 5 p.m. in the 2nd Floor East Lobby, adjacent to Room 220. Video and card players are welcome. Games are open to adults and teens and tournaments will be held once a year.  So, come one, come all; just come ready.

Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. join us to share the fun of reading with your children ages 3-5 years! Children and their grownups will explore stories and activities to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. These 30-40 minute programs are designed to promote language and listening skills, expand children’s imaginations, and arouse their curiosity about the world around them.This program is free and open to the public.

Animation Unplugged: A MEDIA SAVVY Workshop

This course is an introduction to the basics of animation and is designed to stimulate recognition, discussion and comprehension of animated cinematic releases and video game technology. "Animation Unplugged" invites animators of all ages and artistic levels to create flip books, thaumotropes and other optical toys. Animation blends media literacy, visual arts, and technology education.  Through the creation of optical toys and flipbooks participants (unsuspectingly) incorporate:
