Create a different project with us every week as we explore art, music, science, and technology.  Dive into Maker and create projects such as mini robots, helicopter games, racing cars, airplanes, musical instruments, movies, computer programming games and more! Maker takes place every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the children's space.  Recommended for children ages 6 and up.  Maker: noun A person or persons employing do-it-yourself (DIY) techniques to develop unique creations and inventions for useful purposes.

Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library - Central Library

The Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, DC Public Library’s central library, will undergo a complete modernization, starting this year. Before the library closes, we want you to share your memories about the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. These memories may be curated and shared with the public through social media or collected by Special Collections. A Studio Lab staff member will contact you to help coordinate and execute your recording.

A story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. These 20-30 minutes story times introduce books, songs, rhymes, tickles and bounces developmentally appropriate for children ages birth to when they start walking.  Baby Lap Time is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program. It is recommended that each child have their own adult with them.

These 20-30 minute story times are full of books, songs, rhymes and fingerplays for children birth to two years old. Our Baby and Toddler Story Time is a great way to introduce your child to language skills in a positive and fun environment. With slightly more activity and movement than our lap times, children and their caregivers are encouraged to engage with the books and songs and to actively participate in the program.

Looking for a place to toddle? Play with toys? Meet other little ones? Look no further!  Join us in the Children’s Room of the Northeast Library every Thursday afternoon 1-3 p.m. Play with toys that encourage early literacy and motor skill development. Learn early literacy tips from Children’s Librarians.  Relax, let loose, and have a ball! For children ages birth to 3, along with parents and their caretakers.

Weekly chess instruction on Thursdays at 5 p.m. This program is for children of all ages who want to learn to play or improve their chess moves and play in tournaments. Our chess instructor will teach the chess players how to think and plan their next move and use their brain power to win. Come and join our Chess group and learn to make a risky move, Check, Mate, and have fun. This program is made possible by the Friends of the Cleveland Park Library.

I Have a Dream Journals

I Have a Dream Journals
