Hello. My name is Happy and, yes, I am happy. I am eager to please and not one to make a fuss. I go with the flow, you know! I heard some stories and enjoyed some gentle pats. I take my job as a PAL dog very seriously.
From Leo’s Diary: Wednesday September 15, 2010
Local author Armand Lakner gave a passionate talk about his book "From Mauthausen to the Moon" on Sept. 15 at the Chevy Chase Library. The novel is based upon incidents in Lakner's life as a survivor of two and a half years in Nazi concentration camps who came to America to work for NASA. Copies of the book are available at the library. If you'd like us to hold a copy for you, call the Information Desk at 282-3118. 
The Chevy Chase DC Library's book club selection for October is Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer.
This 2005 novel follows the journey of young boy named Oskar, who is on a quest to learn the origins of a mysterious key left behind by his father, who died in the 2001 World Trade Center attacks.
The book is available at our branch in the book club display. The audio book can also be checked out.
The Chevy Chase Library is pleased to announce that David Shaman, author of
The World Bank Unveiled: Inside the Revolutionary Struggle for Transparancy
will be giving an author talk at our branch on Monday, September 20th at 7 pm.
Mr. Shaman will be reading from his book and answering questions from readers.

Greetings! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nessie. I am 10. I am white, soft, and fluffy. I am a PAL dog.
I went to the library tonight for the first time. It was a hot day in the city, so I was grateful for some refreshing cold water when I arrived. My new pal Ava told me there were T Bonz, but I refrained. I’m trying to watch my waistline.
Forget what you used to know about Bogota, Colombia. Fifteen years ago it was considered one of the world's worst cities. Today, thanks to several remarkable mayors who thought way outside the box, Bogota is a city transformed. The changes have been dramatic and inspiring. From Ava's Diary: Wednesday, September 1, 2010
Hi, all! It’s Ava. What a grand time I had at the library tonight. I just love being around kids. Normally I spend my days visiting children in hospitals or going on National Park hikes. You see, I am a certified PAL dog
So a trip to the library was a lovely change. It was my first time at the Chevy Chase Library, so there were a lot of new things to see and smell. Truth be told, the best-smelling thing was those scrumptious T Bonz treats that looked and smelled like mini filet mignons!
Cooler days are coming, and what better time of year to sit and enjoy reading in the lush greenery of our Reading Garden? If you haven't tried it yet, give yourself a little treat. Come, sit and read a while!
This year the summer reading theme centered around water. Every month, when children reached their goals they got to design a "splasher" and put their name on it.
Each month the shape of the "splasher changed; the three shapes were shell, starfish and fish.
As you can see, we had a lot of people contribute to the wall, and the goals ranged from five books a month to 120 books per month!
Well done everyone who made this a success.
