Dream Big — Read!
Kids ages birth to 12 can explore the night in DC Public Library's Summer Reading program, Dream Big -- Read! Stargazing, dreams and wishes, nocturnal animals and pajama story times are just some of the exciting ways this theme will come alive. Check out our fun programs.
Sign-up begins on May 14.
Check the calendar for a schedule of events at your neighborhood library.
Participating Is Easy
To begin your adventure with Summer Reading, visit any DC Public Library, and pick up a reading logbook. Earn credit by reading or attending a summer reading program.
How It Works
Your reading logbook has a page for every week of the program, which runs May 14—August 24..
- Record your reading in each page.
- Bring the logbook to the library and receive a star for every 15 minutes spent reading or attending a library program.
- Read at least 8 hours during the summer to complete the program.
- Bring your completed logbook to your neighborhood library to be eligible to win a prize.
Children entering 1st grade and up will be entered to win an eReader. Children entering kindergarten and below get to choose a new book to keep.
Students who will be in 5th and 6th grade in the fall can enter an essay contest, " A Book that Shaped Me."
DC Public Library is participating in D.C.'s Free Summer Meals Program. The program runs July 2 through August 10. Lunch will be provided from 1-2:30 p.m., Monday—Friday.
