James W. Lewis

James W. Lewis has been first vice president, investments, at Merrill Lynch since 1987.  Born in North Carolina, Lewis has lived in Washington for more than 30 years.

Lewis has also worked as vice president for investments at Johnston, Lemon & Co., as press secretary for former U.S. Representative Bill Hefner, as editor and publisher for the Union News and Home, a weekly newspaper in Union County, N.C., and in various other investment and public relations capacities throughout his career. He is also a private residential real estate investor.

Lewis has served three terms as a director of Watergate East; served as an ANC Commissioner; is serving his third term on the DC Public Library Foundation Board; and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of St. Mary’s Court, an Episcopal Church-related apartment building for low-income citizens in Foggy Bottom.

Lewis received his B.A. in English from Wake Forest University.
