In Bone Rattler, the first in a new series, Eliot Pattison has moved from his Edgar-Award winning Inspector Shan series to colonial America during the French and Indian War, while retaining his absorption with disenfranchised peoples.
Aboard a convict ship bound for the New York colony, Duncan McCallum witnesses a series of deaths and an attempted suicide. He is coerced by the masters of the prison company into investigating the deaths, which continue to occur after landing. The author weaves a complex story of politics, personal ambition and colliding cultures peopled by British authorities, rogue Scots, French raiders, and Huron and Iroquois warriors.
For the author's comments on the historical context, visit his website. We will discuss Bone Rattler at our next meeting on Thursday, April 7, at 6:30 p.m.
