One of America’s old-time boxing champions, Joe Louis, has been resurrected in the book Joe Louis: America’s Fighter by David A. Adler. This picture book is an excellent source of history for young children.
Starting with the vibrant picture on the cover, the book emphasizes power, strength and security for America during that time. It has a very nice illustration of Joe Louis with deep, dark brown skin, strong healthy arms, and huge brown boxing gloves that won him many fights.
In his day, Joe Louis was referred to as America’s hero. He was one of the first African-American boxers to bring joy to the American people. Read this book with your youngster, and travel back in history to learn the highs and lows of Joe Louis' career. Enjoy the meaning of how he enlighten so many today just from the mention of his name.
