161 Years of California Statehood

In September 1850, California became a state. Among other things, it is famous for its beaches, vineyards and mountains. Or is it really famous for earthquakes, Donner Pass and Alcatraz? Or maybe sea lions in San Francisco and sea otters in Monterey.
