Have you been to Story Time at Juanita E. Thornton/Shepherd Park Neighborhood Library? Story Time is a great way to help your young child get ready to learn how to read once s/he enters school. Our story time programs deliver early literacy and pre-literacy skills in a fun package to children of a variety of ages! This month, there are many story times to choose from. Find the one that is right for your family.
Each Story Time program, led by a librarian, features books from our collection. You can borrow a copy of the books read in story time and enjoy them at home again and again, building your child's skills at home. Story Time includes stories, songs, rhymes, fingerplays, music and movement, specially tailored to each individual group of children.
Ongoing weekly programs include: Baby/Toddler Lap Time on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. - a program for children ages infant to two and their parent(s) or caregiver(s), and Preschool Story Time on Thursdays at 11 a.m. - a program for children ages two to five.
For those who work during the day and/or have children who go to daycare or school, we have added Pajama Story Time for children infant to age six and their families on Wednesdays, April 4, 18 and 25 at 7 p.m. (There will be no Pajama Story Time on Wednesday, April 11.) Pajama Story Time will continue through the spring and summer every Wednesday at 7 p.m.! Put on your pajamas, bring your favorite stuffed animal and come to the library for some fun bedtime stories and more. Of course, pajamas are not required. You are welcome to come in your regular clothes if you want.
Last but not least. . . special events call for special story times! Our special, one-time story times are sure to be a fun addition to your month.
In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, please join us for "Jazz, Baby!" on Friday, April 27, at 11 a.m. (Children ages infant to six.) We will read some books about jazz, listen to some sounds and do some jazzy movement.
On Monday, April 30, El día de los niños/El día de los libros (Children's Day/Book Day), come to Bilingual Story Time at 1:30 p.m. (Children ages infant to six.) All the usual story time fun will be delivered in English and Spanish!
