"Everyone thinks children are sweet as Necco Wafers, but I've lived long enough to know the truth: Kids are rotten," says Turtle in the opening paragraph of Turtle in Paradise by Jennifer L. Holm.
Set in the 1930s, during the Great Depression, this book is full of humor and reality. Turtle's mother is working as a live-in housekeeper in New Jersey for a woman who hates children. Turtle is sent to live with her aunt and uncle and her cousins, Beans, Kermit, and Buddy. There is much adventure in the Florida Keys.
We will discuss the book Tuesday, May 1 at 4 p.m.
Although this program is intended for ages 8 to 12, all are welcome.
