Campers from the YMCA Calomiris Center learned about Pablo Picasso, Frida Kahlo, Romare Bearden, symbolism, collages and masks of the world.
They made plaster masks and collage self-portraits, which are on display on the second floor in the children's room.
We were lucky enough to meet some of the young artists, who were 9-14 years old. They told us a little bit about their work:
"I made a mask, and did a cast of my arm. It was fun to make the plaster casts, even though the plaster got stuck in my hair. I used symbols that represent our culture."
"I found pictures of things that I liked in a magazine, and cut them out. I used these pictures to represent myself. It was an inspiration!"
