Congrats to Amber Carpenter, whose essay won the "A Book That Shaped Me" contest for the Woodridge Library!
Amber recently entered the sixth grade at the Alice Deal Middle School. Living close to the Woodridge Library, Amber and her family find themselves enjoying the library often. For the last few of years, Amber has being sharpening her chess skills with Mr. Bennett during his weekly chess classes here at Woodridge. In one of her most notable games, she was well on her way to beating a certain children's librarian that shall remain nameless! Amber is also on the cheerleading team.
Amber's essay discussed the The Last Book in The Universe by Rodman Philbrick. She discovered this great book thanks to her former school librarian. Amber hopes to some day become a writer herself. She thinks she might like to write picture books or long chapter books.
It's true that Amber possess many talents, but don't ask her to keep a secret; she's not too great at that. Well, OUR secret's out Amber -- We are all pretty proud of you here at Woodridge! Amber will pick up her prize of a $50 gift certificate on the Mall at the National Book Festival later this month.
