Banned Books Week Movie: 'The Lorax'

Monday, Sept. 23, 2013, 4:30 p.m.

Book coverFor Banned Books Week, we will view the film The Lorax, based on the book by Dr. Seuss.

The story of The Lorax is about creature who lives among the trees and the Once-ler, a creature that cuts the trees down to use for many different products. The Lorax sees that the forest is dying and tries to persuade the Once-ler to stop cutting down the trees.
Banned Books Week
The Lorax was banned because it was seen as portraying the foresting industry in an arguably negative way. Some people felt that this book was persuading children against the logging industry. Others feel that the movie too heavily promotes environmentalism. We encourage you to come in to view the movie and check out the book. Banned Books Week encourages us to think for ourselves!

In addition, a display of Banned and Challenged books for children, teens and adults will be on view the week of Sept. 22 to Sept. 28.
