What’s old is new again at the DC Public Library. The Takoma Park Neighborhood Library has been featured in American Libraries magazine’s 2010 Library Design Showcase.
Published by the American Library Association, American Libraries’ Design Showcase features buildings from around the country that highlight a particular facet of library architecture or design. The Takoma Park Neighborhood Library was featured in the Traditional and Historic Styles section.
One of four Carnegie-funded library buildings in the city, Takoma Park is the oldest public neighborhood library in the District. The $1.95 million makeover restored woodwork, improved the lighting, developed a new floor plan, replicated original furniture, and refurbished the exterior masonry and metalwork at the one-story Renaissance Revival-style brick building.
