Where Have You Traveled on Your Journey?

In February, youth experienced a Picturing America and Black History Month program about Jacob Lawrence and The Great Migration. Library staff led youth in a discussion analyzing a print of the "Migration Series No. 57" by Lawrence. After their analysis, youth listened to a Whole Book Approach reading of Lawrence's book, The Great Migration. It was enlightening to listen to the youth's reactions to the painting and the book.
One of the most exciting things about the afternoon was the culminating arts activity in which the youth created their own migration collages answering the question: Where have you traveled on your journey? Here are images from the event and a photo of a Jacob Lawrence Migration Series recreation. The recreation was painted by students in Ms. Reeder's class at Roosevelt Senior High School.
