About the Adult Literacy Resource Center

We're Moving: MLK Library Closed, March 4, 2017

The DC Public Library offers adult literacy services through the Adult Literacy Resource Center (ALRC). The ALRC provides literacy services to young adults (16 years +) and adults and is staffed with adult literacy education specialists.

We have instructional, informational and leisure reading materials for adult developing readers and speakers of other languages. We also provide resource materials for teachers and tutors of literacy, ABE, GED and English as a Second Language (ESL). These materials can be checked out for 21 days, renewed for 21 days and returned to any DC neighborhood library. Books can be renewed by phone or online.

Starting March 6, 2017, we will be conducting our assessment and tutoring services at the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library (3160 16th St. NW) and the Shaw Neighborhood Library (1630 7th St. NW).

Starting May 8, 2017, we will begin offering services at Library Express, 1990 K St. NW (entrance on 20th St.)
