The DC Public Library, in partnership with the National Association of Black Storytellers, is proud to host a week-long series of storytelling events for children, families, and school groups. Join us for a special live performance from Lyn Ford, teller of home-fried tales, with a storytime for ages 3 to 6.

Baby and Toddler Story Time

Baby and Toddler Story Time

These 20-30 minute story times are full of books, songs, rhymes and fingerplays for children birth to two years old. Our Baby and Toddler Story Time is a great way to introduce your child to language skills in a positive and fun environment. With slightly more activity and movement than our lap times, children and their grownups are encouraged engage with the books and songs and to actively participate in the program.  
I Have A Dream Picture Book

I Have A Dream Story Time

On Saturday, January 16 the Children’s Department of the Northeast library will celebrate the birthday of civil rights leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with an “I Have A Dream" story time. Families are invited to listen to stories and sing songs about accepting and celebrating differences, working together, friendship, and dreaming big dreams.  Afterward, children can make an inspirational craft. Please join us as we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Welcome to the World of Kadir Nelson

In celebration of February as Black History Month, today’s story time will feature the great work of African American author, illustrator, 2012 Coretta Scott King Award Winner, and two-time winner of the Caldecott Honor Award, Kadir Nelson.

Pajama Story Time

An evening story time where pajamas are encouraged but not required. These 30-40 minute evening programs are designed to delight children of all ages. Filled with stories and activities that promote and develop language skills and imagination these programs encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning.
