Toddler Art and Stories

Get up and get creative at our Toddler Art and Stories! These 20-30 minute programs are full of books, songs and art activities that  are designed to help develop your child’s language and motor skills. After storytime, your child will participate in a process-oriented art project to explore art materials and the world around them. Process-oriented art focuses on what can be learned from the act of making art rather than the product.

Living the American Indian Experience

Papitám (Algonquin for “Let’s Play”) is a learning-through-play experience that teaches kids about Native American traditions: make a Sisku (clay) pot, practice safety archery at our Ahtu (deer) station, listen to a Piscataway story by the indoor fire and wrap things up with drumming and dancing! Ages 8 and up.

Join us for an afternoon celebrating the Summer Reading theme of Build a Better World! This year's party will feature games, snacks (slushies!!), surprises, music performances, and more.   Open to all ages. From 1 - 4 p.m. in front of the library on 7th Street NE. This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Northeast Library.   P.S. Do you have some old puzzles you no longer use? Maybe you'd like one of ours? Start your week with a little creativity and a take-home craft. Join us on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month to exercise your left brain. We'll provide all the materials (and sometimes treats), you bring your ideas. Projects vary with the seasons. Upcoming crafternoons: Monday, May 8:  Mother's Day cards (Mother's Day is Sunday, May 14), Children's Room Monday, May 22: Design your own Backpack, Teen Space All ages welcome. Don't miss S.T.E.A.M. Team!  Every month we’ll do a different hands-on activity exploring Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Monthly activities include science experiments, tech demonstrations, graphic design, mathematical games and more. All supplies included - just bring yourself. Ages 6 & Up in the Southeast Library meeting room. Children under 9 years old must have a parent with them on library premises.  Hand-on activities may require caretaker help and supervision.

This workshop will teach the youth how to use different types of cameras focusing on basic camera functions, good picture taking skills and documenting changes in the community. All workshop will expose the youth to books of famous, local and national professional minority artist in photography. This program is free and offers a great experience for youth. Tuesdays and Thursdays June 27 - August 13, 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
