Baby and Toddler Lap Time

A story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. These 20-30 minutes story times introduce books, songs, rhymes, tickles and bounces developmentally appropriate for children ages birth to when they start walking.  Baby Lap Time is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program. It is recommended that each child have their own adult with them.

Get up and get moving at our Toddler Story Time. This 20-30 minute program is full of books, songs and fun activities that are designed to help develop your child’s language skills. Children ages 12-36 months and their caregivers are encouraged to engage with the stories and activities and participate in the program along with the children. Tickets are required to attend this program. They are available at the Children’s Desk 60 minutes before the start of the story time on a first-come, first-served basis.

Bilingual Spanish Story Time

Stories, songs, dances, and more in English and Spanish for children ages birth to 5 and their adults. For safety's sake, there is a limit of 75 participants for each story time. Remember there is a story time at 10 a.m. and another repeated at 11 a.m. To schedule a class visit, please call 202-671-3125. Let’s Communicate in American Sign Language: Beginning Level Tuesdays 12 – 1 p.m. September 12 - November 28, 2017    Bring your lunch and join us at Noon for weekly ASL classes in the Library Express large meeting room.  This Beginning Level class will cover 100+ ASL vocabulary words and rules of grammar. Review what you know, learn new signs, and practice conversation. Although focus is on beginners, everyone is welcome to join the class, regardless of skill level.

Maker takes place every Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the children's space.  Recommended for children ages 6 and up.  Maker: noun A person or persons employing do-it-yourself (DIY) techniques to develop unique creations and inventions for useful purposes.
