These 20-30 minute story times are full of books, songs, rhymes and fingerplays for children birth to two years old. Our Baby and Toddler Story Time is a great way to introduce your child to language skills in a positive and fun environment. With slightly more activity and movement than our lap times, children and their grownups are encouraged engage with the books and songs and to actively participate in the program.

Share the fun of reading with your children ages 3-5 years! Children and their grownups, will explore stories and activities to encourage children to develop a lifelong love of reading and learning. These 30-40 minute programs are designed to promote language and listening skills, expand children’s imaginations and arouse their curiosity about the world around them. Please call 202-698-0183 with questions. Story time takes place on the lower level.

Bilingual Spanish Story Time

Stories, songs, dances, and more in English and Spanish for children ages birth to 5 and their adults. For safety's sake, there is a limit of 75 participants for each story time. Remember there is a story time at 10 a.m. and another repeated at 11 a.m. To schedule a class visit, please call 202-671-3125. Cuentos, canciones, cailes, y más en inglés y español para niños de 0-5 años y sus adultos. Por motivos de seguridad, existe un límite de 75 participantes para cada hora del cuento.

Tickets are required to attend this program. They are available at the Children’s Desk 60 minutes before the start of the story time on a first-come, first-served basis.

A story time experience for our youngest library users and their caregivers. These 20-30 minutes story times introduce books, songs, rhymes, tickles and bounces developmentally appropriate for children ages birth to when they start walking.  Baby Lap Time is a wonderful way to introduce your child to the joys of reading in a positive and fun atmosphere. This story time is designed so the baby will be in their caregiver’s lap and the grownup is actively involved in the program. It is recommended that each child have their own adult with them.

This program includes songs, music and motion and is very interactive. Children have the opportunity to learn French songs, practice their French, and connect words with motion, as well as enjoy stories. Create a different project with us every week as we explore art, music, science, and technology.  Dive into Maker and create projects such as mini robots, helicopter games, racing cars, airplanes, musical instruments, movies, computer programming games and more! Maker takes place every Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the children's space.  Recommended for children ages 6 and up.  Maker: noun A person or persons employing do-it-yourself (DIY) techniques to develop unique creations and inventions for useful purposes.

Children and their grownups are encouraged to engage with the books and songs and to actively participate in the program.  Space is limited and admission is on a first come, first served basis. Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and story time starts at 9:45 a.m. Have a group? Please call ahead of time to schedule a special visit.
