The Capitol View Neighborhood Library will host a Health Literacy Workshop on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. Topics will include: Diabetes Prevention, Living with HIV/AIDS, Learning to Navigate the Web to locate Health Information and Social Services in the D.C. area and Free Handouts on Health Related Resources.

Come and enjoy an afternoon with the Capitol View Book Club.  This month's book is "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett.  A poignant tale about three women, and a time and a place, that are in many ways is still with us, the south in 1962.   Wednesday, April 14th, at 1:30 p.m.

The Capitol View Neighborhood Library is an Authorized Census Questionnaire Assistance Center.  If you need help with your Census Questionnaire, assistance is available March 19-April 19, 2010:  Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m.-1 p.m.  Friday and Saturday 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.  "It's In Our Hands." 

Video Storybooks

Children Can Watch, Listen and Learn to Read

Scholastic’s BookFlix encourages kids to read on their own.  Video storybooks such as Bugs! Bugs! Bugs! offer music, animation/artwork and narration. Fiction titles are paired with nonfiction books. For example, Curious George Rides a Bike is paired with a book on monkeys.  Dot the Fire Dog is paired with A Very Busy Firehouse. Some titles are available in Spanish.  Algunos títulos están disponibles en español.

Find Books for Kids to Read

Teachers, parents or students can use the NoveList K-8 site to find fiction titles that are popular with young readers as well as award winners. The site includes book discussion guides and reviews (called BookTalks).

Through OverDrive, the library offers free language learning audio programs.Languages you can learn include Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, French, German and Spanish. You must have a library card to use this service.  To get started, visit the help page.
