End of Summer Reading Party For Kids and Teens!

The kids are heading back to school, the days are getting shorter, and summer reading is over.  Hopefully everyone has turned in their summer reading logs after hours and hours of reading. That means it’s time for a party! On Saturday, Sept. 8 at 3:30 p.m., the Cleveland Park Library is throwing an "End of Summer Reading Party" and everyone is invited!

A Teen's Perspective on Movies

This summer the Cleveland Park Library welcomed one of the many teens who found employment in the District through the Summer Youth Employment Program. Our teen was Donte. He shelved many, many books, he hauled tables around for children’s programming, he helped organize story times, he blogged about his experiences and he worked on a "capstone" project. Teens could chose to do anything library related for their capstone project, and Donte chose to to review movies. Since he’s now off to college to major in creative writing and film this seemed a perfect fit.

The Moment of Hitchcock

David Thomson's Musings on the Cultural Effect of 'Psycho'

Not everyone likes the horror genre. I used to find it trashy, crude-for-crudeness's sake, and generally not creative. However, as I read more on film history and theory, I am learning that there is always more to a film than meets the eye, even in slasher movies.
