Updating DC Public Library's Rules of Behavior

DC Public Library has updated its Rules of Behavior to better reflect our community’s needs, in line with the library’s purpose and core values. The Board of Library Trustees voted to adopt the new policy at the July 16, 2025 meeting. The new rules are called the Code of Conduct. The policy will be posted to the DC Register for a 30-day comment period. Our goal is to ensure our libraries provide a safe, welcoming, and equitable environment for all.

What Are Rules of Behavior?

Rules of Behavior are how you set shared expectations around behaviors and conduct to ensure that all individuals feel safe and welcomed. Specifically in our libraries, they serve as a framework for both library staff and customers like you so that everyone understands what is expected of them. Clear rules that reflect the needs of all stakeholders help us cultivate more positive library experiences for all.
