Meet Tony Keith, Jr., Discover Summer Ambassador
DC Public Library is excited to introduce you to the first Discover Summer Ambassador, local author Tony Keith Jr.! Tony is a Black American gay poet, spoken word artist, and hip-hop educational leader from Washington, D.C. He is author of the YA memoir in verse How the Boogeyman Became a Poet and the new collection of poems, Knucklehead. Tony’s writings have appeared in the International Journal of Critical Media Literacy, the Journal of Black Masculinity, and many others. A multiyear Fellow of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities with a PhD in education from George Mason University, Tony is CEO of Ed Emcee Academy and lives with his husband, Harry Christian III. You can often find him at his neighborhood library, the Capitol View Library, reading, writing or volunteering as the Vice President of the Capitol Library Friends group.

Meet DeAndra Hodge, Discover Summer Illustrator
This year's DIscover Summer graphics were illustrated by local illustrator, DeAndra Hodge! DeAndra is an award-winning illustrator, graphic designer, storyteller and teacher based in Washington D.C. She's illustrated over ten children's books by the big five publishing companies. Best known for illustrating Yvonne Clark and Her Engineering Spark and the Beyond the Game Series, DeAndra's work is known for its bright and energetic feel as well as depicting an array of diverse characters. She received her BA in Fine Art from the University of Montevallo.

You know that your DC Public Library Card can connect you to books, movies, music and more but this summer your library card is also your ticket to some of D.C.'s hottest museums! DC Public Library is partnering with local museums to host Library Days where families can enjoy special experiences.
June 25 | Planet Word
Library Day at Planet Word | Wednesday, June 25 at 3 and 4 p.m.
The DC Public Library is excited to Discover Summer with you at Planet Word, an immersive language experience located at the historic Franklin School in Washington, D.C. Visit the museum’s interactive exhibits and learn where words come from, explore a magic library, “Unlock the Music” by singing karaoke, and learn so much more about the history of words and language!

July 6 | National Museum of Women in the Arts
Library Day at National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) | Sunday, July 6 at 10 a.m., 11a.m., 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.
The DC Public Library is excited to Discover Summer with you at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA), the “first museum in the world solely dedicated to championing women through the arts”! Enjoy experiencing current collections and exhibitions, such as Uncanny and Guerrilla Girls: Making Trouble and join NMWA educators in the Open Studio for “free, self-directed drop-in art-making activities inspired by artworks on view”.
Because space is limited, you must sign up for a visit time.
