The Mt. Pleasant Library will be closed from Monday, Feb. 10 - Monday, June 23, 2025 for much-needed repairs and improvements. These upgrades are a critical part of DC Public Library's Facilities Master Plan Next Libris. This plan outlines DC Public Library's commitment to be a good steward of our buildings by proactively maintaining aging building systems and designing responsively by updating building interiors to remain responsive to neighborhood needs. The Mt. Pleasant Library will be receiving:
- A new heating & air conditioning system
- Roof repairs
- New flooring on the lower level
- New Furniture for the Teen Space
- Exterior door repair
- Other minor upgrades and improvements
Service Details
- All available holds should be picked up by Sunday, Feb. 9.
- Due dates for items checked out from the Mt. Pleasant Library will be extended one-week to Monday, Feb. 17.
- The book drop will be locked. Items checked out from the Mt. Pleasant Library can be returned at any DC Public Library location.
- Customers who have selected the Mt. Pleasant Library as their default hold pick-up location will have their location automatically transferred to the Petworth Library. The default hold pick-up location can be changed by:
- Logging into My Account
- Click "Preferences"
- Select your preferred library under "Preferred Pick-Up Library"
- Click "Update" to save the change

Library by Mail Service
Library by Mail is a free service for eligible Washington, DC residents to check out library books, DVDs and magazines through the mail.
- Who is Eligible?: Washington, DC residents of all ages who are unable to visit to the library due to a permanent disability (one year or more), temporary disability (up to one year or less), or underlying health conditions are eligible for this service.
- How Does Library by Mail Work?: All Materials are mailed in a postage-paid library mailing pouch through the U.S. Postal Service. Please allow for a turnaround time for the materials to arrive. When you are finished, place the materials back in the same library mailing pouch and turn over the address card. Mail the pouch back through the U.S. Postal Service.
