From Harpo’s Diary: Tuesday, March 22, 2011

I have been known to be a goofball. Tonight I was a goofball on fire! I made Miss Julie laugh a lot with my goofiness. I skipped. She laughed. I think she had never seen a dog skip before. So, I did it again. I did a little “Skip to my Lou” on my own just for the fun of it.  Later I made her giggle when I slowly slid my front paws out on the smooth floor, lowering myself into a low split before plopping into a lying position. It was a smooth move full of personality. Miss Julie appreciates my uniqueness, and I always perform well for an appreciative audience.

I am a PAL dog, and I enjoy my work; however, I do not take it too seriously. I am a laid-back Labradoodle and take it all in stride. Another PAL buddy of mine, Dakota, joined me at the library tonight. He’s cool. He brought a whole pillow-case full of toys. He was like Santa Claus with his sack and so generous. He reminded me of that dog in Claude the Dog: A Christmas Story by Dick Gackenbach.  He let me help myself to a foot-long bone, which I promptly tucked under my paw for safe-keeping. I love bones. I also love squeaky toys, and Dakota had some of those, too! And he shared. Dogs have to learn to share. And, according to Emily’s Sharing and Caring Book by Cindy Post Senning, children have to share, too. All living creatures have to share. I learn so much in books.

As for books, I can always count on hearing some good stories at the library. Tonight I heard Always in Trouble by Corinne Demas. It was a brand new book. I could tell right away by the way it smelled. I love the smell of a new book! I also heard Good Boy, Fergus! by David Shannon. That one cracks me up. One little girl did a fine job reading Dog and Bear by Laura Vaccaro Seeger to me. I was very fond of the illustrations in that book.

Well, it’s time for my bedtime snack, and then I’d better hit the hay! I have a full day of squirrel patrol ahead of me tomorrow.

Peace and Love,
The Big H (A.K.A. Harpo)
