Field of Vision: Walking the UK & US

Two printmakers Ten Walks Two Countries

Please join us Thursday, December 1, at 7 p.m. for an Art Program by artists Tracy Hill & Martha Oatway.

The idea for Field of Vision was born out of a shared passion for walking. Two print-makers, two different ways of seeing but with one vision -- to walk in each other's respective homeland and respond to those landscapes through print.

Palisades’ resident, Martha Oatway, spent the past two years in Lancashire, U.K., where she met Tracy Hill, senior printmaking technician at the University of Central Lancashire.  The two print-makers’ passion for walking became the project, “Field of Vision,” 2 printmakers, 10 walks, 2 countries.

A simple idea transformed into much more; a friendship, an exploration of another’s country, and an exchange of ideas on seeing and walking the landscape.  During the yearlong project, Martha and Tracy did five walks in Lancashire, and Tracy traveled to Washington to do five walks with Martha here.

“Field of Vision” is two print-makers with two different visions of the 10 walks they took together.  It is an exploration of the "other’s" landscape as well as their own.

The two artists will show images from their walks, prints they have made about the walks and talk about the ideas and processes behind their project.
