Celebrate DC Emancipation Day

This year's Emancipation Day marks the 150th anniversary of the day President Abraham Lincoln signed the District of Columbia Compensated Emancipation Act.  In honor of Emancipation Day, the Dorothy I. Height/Benning Neighborhood Library will feature the informative documentary, Enslavement to Emancipation. (Film Not Rated - 2009)

The Office of the Secretary of the District of Columbia and the Office of Cable Television has produced this one-hour documentary that tells the story of Washington, DC from slavery through emancipation and up to the present day. (60 minutes)

A discussion will follow the screening.
