Step Afrika! Reads

Story Time and Mini Dance Workshop for All Ages

Photo of Step Afrika! PerformanceStep Afrika! Reads promotes reading and literacy skills with a special story time, then invites kids to get up on their feet to participate in a mini workshop with the artists from Step Afrika!'s newest production, nxt/step at several of our library locations.

Each year, Step Afrika! presents a new, original production for its annual Home Performance Series (HPS) at the Atlas Performing Arts Center.  This year's production, nxt/step is an exploration of youth culture, stepping, spoken word, percussive dance and social media.  Nxt/Step will feature the explosive dancers of Step Afrika!, guest artists along with the incredible Human Orchestra, Kenny Muhammad.

During the two-week run of the Home Performance Series, Step Afrika! reaches out to the local community through Roadmap to HPS -- outreach activities that takes Step Afrika! out of the theater and into the library.  Roadmap events include our newly-developed Step Afrika! Reads program and the Step Afrika mini-class for children K - 12.
