Book Recommendations: Picture Books

Are you as excited about "digging into reading" this summer as I am?

I love a themed story time, so I put together a short list of picture books about gardening and digging.

First Garden
First Garden by Robbin Gourley is a history of gardens at the White House. Although it's pretty text heavy, it includes some yummy sounding recipe and could peak the interest of your young gardener!
My Garden by Kevin Henkes describes a young girl's dream garden. Although yours is probably not quite as exotic, this title and its bright illustrations is sure to spark your child's imagination! My Garden
Diary of a Worm
Think worms are icky? Well, the narrator of Diary of a Worm by Doreen Cronin is a worm who is busy learning all about the good parts -- and gross parts -- of worm-hood.

Inspired by your reading and want to explore more? You could always visit the National Botanical Garden right here in D.C.!

Know any other great picture books about digging and gardening? Let us know!
