Divergent book coverTired of love triangles dominating your dystopian YA novel? Then Veronica Roth’s Divergent is for you.

Set in a future dystopian Chicago, Divergent follows Beatrice Prior as she must decide the path her life will take. The city is divided into five factions, each representing a virtue which the members believe is most important: Abnegation (the selfless), Amity (the peaceful), Candor (the honest), Dauntless (the brave) and Erudite (the intelligent). Being born into Abnegation, but feeling the pull of another faction, Beatrice is conflicted as Choosing Day arrives.

Once she chooses her faction, Beatrice must deal with a grueling initiation and the threat of becoming one of the factionless while discontent amongst the factions rises and a sinister plot seems to be building.

Once you’ve finished Divergent, you can delve straight into its sequel, Insurgent, before Allegiant, the final book of the trilogy, comes out in October.

DC Public Library also has digital copies of Divergent as a book and an audiobook.
