Join the Playwrights Circle!

New group will meet weekly to support the work of new dramatists

AAC logoAre you a closet playwright? Are you ready to step into the spotlight and meet others who aspire to rock the stage with words? Join our new Playwrights Circle!

Part of the Aspiring Authors Circle, that meets as a whole in the Popular Library, the Playwrights Circle is in good company with Fiction Writers, Poets, and Bloggers who are new to or emerging in their craft.

This new group will meet regularly on the library's Lower Level on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., sometimes meeting in Room A-5. Working in this theater setting will both inspire scenes and provide a practical testing ground for the group's collective and individual works. Space will also be made available for auditions and rehearsals, as the work of the Circle begins to gel.

Members will take advantage of the classes, collection, and resources offered by the Library to further support their work. The Library's nonfiction collection includes:
  • The plays of renowned dramatists
  • Video recordings of performances by Washington theater groups in the Washingtoniana collection
  • The Espresso Book Machine in the Digital Commons is a modern-day printing press available for publication of new plays.
Playwrights Circle members and Popular Services staff will also work together in the Digital Commons to explore other 21st century possibilities to enhance this centuries-old craft.

So, if you are ready to take that bow, join us at Room A-5 on Saturday, Oct. 5 at 11 a.m., or take the whole tour on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 6 p.m. as the Aspiring Authors Circle launches from the Popular Library on the first floor.

An opening night bouquet may just be in your future!
