Kids European Festival

October and November 2013

The Kids European Festival in Washington, D.C. is one of the largest arts and culture events in the United States. In conjunction with the European Union, the French-American Cultural Foundation, and corporate and private foundations, local cultural institutions like the Kennedy Center For the Performing Arts and DC Public Library are able present more than 200 family events.

Denmark's Viking Past
Oct. 24, 4 p.m.
Children's Activity Room, Second Floor
Make your own Viking ship and enjoy a film based on the book The Little Mermaid.

United Kingdom: FILMCLUB and Active Approaches to Film with Jerome Monahan
Oct. 26, 1:30 p.m.
Main Meeting Room, First Floor
In partnership British Council Film and FILMCLUB, two compilations of seven outstanding animation, live action, and documentary short films made in the United Kingdom in the past five years.  Freelance journalist and contributor to The Guardian, Times Educational Supplement, Jerome Monahan will facilitate a workshop following the viewing of the films.

Germany: The Deep Dark Forest

Participate in a little Reader's Theater as we recreate a story from the Brothers Grimm and make and take a craft to commemorate the fun.

Austria: Martha in the Suitcase
Nov. 9, 1:30 p.m.
Main Meeting Room, First Floor
Pack your bags! Many stories feature suitcases, and most of them are travel adventures — but this one is different. In Martha in the Suitcase, Martha gets inside her own suitcase to tell you exciting new stories. You’ll be amazed at the funny and incredible things she has stuffed inside — there’s music, comedy, acrobatics, and a lot of other surprises!
