Books & Bars: Reinventing the Book Club

Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, 7 p.m.

The Cuckoo's CallingJoin us at Laughing Man Tavern (1306 G St. NW) on the third Wednesday of each month for a modern-day book club. Books & Bars is a book club that promises great food, drinks, a comfortable atmosphere, and great discussion on today's most intriguing books.

For December, Books & Bars will be discussing The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith (pseudonym for J.K. Rowling, acclaimed author of the Harry Potter series).

The Cuckoo's Calling tells the story of Cormoran Strike. After losing his leg to a land mine in Afghanistan, Strike is barely making it as a private investigator. Strike is down to one client, just broke up with his girlfriend, and is living out of his office. Then the door opens and Strike is offered a case that can change his current circumstances. John Bristow, brother to the legendary supermodel Lula Landry, wants answers.

Known to her friends as The Cuckoo, Lula fell to her death a few months earlier. The police ruled it a suicide, but John refuses to believe that. The case plunges Strike into the world of multimillionaire beauties, rock-star boyfriends, and desperate designers while searching for the truth of what happened to The Cuckoo.
