November is Peanut Butter Lovers Month!

Picture of creamy peanut butterPB&J sandwiches, Reese’s peanut butter cups, peanut butter on celery, Tagalong cookies… I love peanut butter! How about you?
Did you know …
  • Peanut butter was invented by George Washington Carver in the early 1900s?
  • That peanuts are neither a “pea” or a “nut”, but a legume? They are high in protein, which the human body needs for energy, rebuilding muscle tissue, and many other things.
  • That peanuts are native to South America
You can learn more facts about peanuts and peanut butter by checking out books at your local DC Public Library location or by doing research at home using our databases, which you can access for free using your library card.

Also be sure to come to our family programs celebrating peanut butter this month. On Nov. 14 at 3:30 p.m., we will be having a peanut butter-and-jelly themed story time where we will be making our own PB&J sandwiches to eat.

Then on Nov. 21 at 3:30 p.m., we will be making peanut butter cup-dipped apples and peanut butter cup caramel lattes for the adults.

This month, feel free to indulge in the sweet, savory treat that is peanut butter!
