Opa! Greek Week at Francis Gregory Library
As part of DC's Kids Euro Festival our library had a week-long celebration of Greece. Along with a display of books on Greek cooking, culture, history and mythology, we also had a showing of Disney's Hercules. We had puppet and drawing crafts in the Children's Room during the week. We also had special Greek story times where we read Aesop's fables and tales from Greek mythology.
Our Greek celebration had our patrons making laurel wreath crowns and discussing what people, things, ideas, words and events come from Greek. We also tried yummy foods that are common in the Mediterranean, like pita chips, hummus and baklava. Together we all learned and performed a simple Greek dance using music from Zorba the Greek.
Even if you missed our Greek week, you can still check out plenty of books, movies, comics and more about Greece at the library. Ask your librarian how you can get into the Greek spirit!
