When Databases Collide
My great-grandfather's 1904 career accelerator

At our weekly Job Seekers clinic, I love showing people our Job and Career Accelerator, which features all kinds of tutorials and helpful tools for creating cover letters and resumes. I have created a profile myself to show library customers what they can get out of the database.

Who knew that I would find my great-grandfather from 1904 a couple of clicks away at Heritage Quest, our main genealogy database. Back then, his profile would have consisted of this photo (at right) and caption in the book of Men of Michigan, which appears to have been a mutual admiration society for old rich dudes in my home state.
Books like this are available on Heritage Quest, so do a little searching to find your own old family gems.
For more on our databases, check out upcoming programs here at Southeast focused on online job searching and our Testing and Education Reference Center. Also keep an eye out for future session focused on Heritage Quest.
