A recommended book for young adult reading this summer that sparks a reaction is Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins, the second book of the Hunger Games series. Katniss Everdeen faces the unfortunate task of leaving the confines of her home, District 12, to return to the place where she claimed her greatest victory and discovered her inner strength, the Arena of the Hunger Games. After using her wit and unshakable courage to win the Games the previous year, Katniss and her supposed love interest, Peeta, have given residents all throughout the 12 districts of Panem a glimpse of hope in overcoming the dictates of the Capitol. Eager to squash any ideas of rebellion brewing in the minds of the people, the ruthless President Snow, decides to use this year’s games as a symbol of the Capitol’s power by sending Katniss and Peeta back into the Arena with other winners of the previous Hunger Games to fight until the death. The clock is ticking and only one tribute can leave the Arena alive, but Katniss has other plans. She decides to fight back and to spark a reaction that will change the fate of her family and friends.
