'Boy, Snow, Bird' by Helen Oyeyemi

In the winter of 1953, Boy Novak moves to a small Massachusetts town and marries a widower, becoming stepmother to his captivating daughter, Snow Whitman. When Boy gives birth to a baby girl named Bird, born dark-skinned, and the Whitmans are exposed as light-skinned African-Americans passing as white, Boy struggles to come to terms with the society's -and her own- aesthetic obsession.
Join us as we discuss this reimagining of the classic fairy tale Snow White and what New York Times Book Review describes as “gloriously unsettling… evoking Toni Morrison, Haruki Murakami, Angela Carter, Edgar Allan Poe, Gabriel García Márquez, Chris Abani and even Emily Dickinson."
The Francis A. Gregory Adult Book Club meets the fourth Thursday of each month. Copies are available for check-out.
