U Street Memories from Duke Ellington to Marvin Gaye: An Oral History Project

howard theatre Help us tell the story of Washington D.C. 's famed U Street, once known as "Black Broadway" and become a part of the Washingtoniana Community Archive!

DC Public Library's Washingtoniana Department is seeking individuals who were either performers themselves, frequent patrons of establishments on U Street or were involved with the scene in some way between the 1940s and 1970s, have vivid memories of their experience and are willing to be interviewed for this oral history project.

If interested in contributing, please contact Special Collections Librarian and Oral Historian, Kelly E. Navies at 202-727-1199 or kelly.navies@dc.gov.

This project was made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
