With a whirlwind tour of the LA movie industry and a taste of teen romance as well as a bit of a mystery, this is a wonderful summer read that hits on some emotional issues but in a very accessible way. Nina LaCour, author of Hold Still and The Disenchantments has put together another wonderful story. In this book, we are introduced to Emi Price, a precociously talented budding set designer for a major movie studio in Los Angeles. Though she got the job through her brother, her talent is leading her to bigger and better success. With an eye to the details, Emi is navigating the last summer before Everything Leads to Youshe goes away to college. And, though she plans to stay at home, she knows everything will change. She will be losing her best friend Charlotte to a Mid-Western college and will be stepping boldly into her future.
 
 
Knowing this, her brother who will be out of town for the summer, lets her use his apartment while he is gone on the condition that she and her friend Charlotte do something epic with it. In the short period of time that follows, Emi and Charlotte begin to track down the long unknown family members of a film legend. The girl they find, Ava, finds her life altered drastically by the discovery of her family past. Emi, Charlotte, and Ava all begin working on a passion project film with many other talented people. While working on the film, Emi begins to fall in love with Ava despite getting over a recent relationship with her ex-girlfriend Morgan.

As we follow them through the film-making process we get a behind the scene glimpse at a world that is full of illusion, but we watch them discover something real. This book has a lot of heart and more than a few twists and turns. This book is perfect for this time of year. Check it out today!
