Author Talk with Emmi Itaranta and Salla Simukka

On Friday, August 29th at 12:30 p.m., Tenley will be hosting an author talk featuring two Finnish authors. Both authors have books recently published in English for young adult readers.
Emmi Itaranta is the author of Memory of Water. After global warming changes the world's geography and politics, wars are waged over water. Noria Kaitio becomes a tea master like her father, a position that holds great responsibility and great secrets, until her father's death forces her to choose between safety and fighting back. Library Journal, giving Memory of Water a starred review, says, "the writing is gorgeous and delicate in this dystopian award-winning debut, which is unique in both its setting and the small scale that... Itaranta employs... the tension is high even though the pacing remains measured."

As Red as Bloodthe first book in a Snow White trilogy, is by Salla Simukka. Receiving a starred review, Kirkus Reviews calls it a "cold, delicate snowflake of a tale sparkl[ling] with icy magic." Self-sufficient heroine Lumikki Andersson finds a stash of wet, crimson-colored money in her school's dark room. Thousands of Euros splattered with someone's blood. Suddenly, she is swept into a whirlpool of events which turn deadly. As Lumikki loses control of her carefully constructed world, she realizes she's been blind to the forces around her, and she's running out of time to set them right.
The author talk will be on the second floor of the library in the Large Conference Room.Memory of WaterAs Red as Blood
