Did You Know These Books Have Been Challenged?

Maybe you've heard that some children's books like Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone or Huckleberry Finn have been threatened with removal from public collections, but other texts may surprise you. For instance, it may shock you to know that classic texts like Where the Wild Things Are or Little House on the Prairie have been challenged as well.

In honor of Banned Books Week (Sept. 21-27), the children's room created a new engaging display; it features children's literature that has been threatened in the past or works that continue to be challenged today. Pick up a book or learn more about Banned Book week through our handy program. Our flyer discusses pertinent topics such as the following:
  • What is the year's theme for Banned Book month?
  • What is the difference between a banned and a challenged book?
  • Are there other children's book that have been threatened in past years and if so what are they?
  • Plus additional resources and interesting information!
Banned Book Week celebrates your right to read in freedom so stop by so that you can discover the joy of each of these unique authors and their amazing works. It's a privilege that should not be wasted!
