Foggy Bottom Illustrated
This Wednesday, Oct. 8, at 7 p.m., Matthew Gilmore, author of Foggy Bottom and the West End, will be narrating the history of our neighborhood through a selection of rare images.
Foggy Bottom and West End were once an industrial epicenter of D.C. -- breweries, factories, and gasworks dominated the area. The picture above of a gas tank was what the site of the Watergate Building looked like in the early 20th century.
In Gilmore's words: "The past 200 years have seen the area evolve rapidly, with a huge number of academic, federal, residential, and business forces at play. Attendees will get to see the area as it was and learn about its dramatic and sometimes tumultuous transformation."
Whether you have lived in the neighborhood for five years or 50, you won't want to miss this opportunity to learn about our neighborhood's rich history.
