John Cage: Theatre Piece

Arcturus Theater Company

The DC Public Library is thrilled to present John Cage's Theatre Piece with the gracious cooperation of the Arcturus Theater Company. The event is free and suitable for people of all ages. It will take place on Thursday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 p.m.

Theatre Piece was Cage's 1960 reworking and variation of an untitled performance he organized at Black Mountain College in 1952, known in the annals of art history as being the first "Happening" and for challenging the notions of the boundaries of theater.

The 45-minute multimedia event will include original sound and video projections created specifically for the evening by Evan J. Dice and J. Michael Whalen, choreography by Kim Curtis performed by Barbara Stuckey, Cristen Stephansky adding live musical flourishes, Wendy Wilmer reading poetry from the 20th century, and more under the coordination of Ross Heath. It will be a kaleidoscope of simultaneous performances capturing the playful indeterminacy John Cage was so brilliant at inspiring.

Theatre Piece promises to be a unique evening of theater and music.
