Gaming at Tenley Library

International Games Day and a preview of future events

Recently, Tenley Library participated in International Games Day.  This is an annual event that celebrates gaming in libraries both here in the United States and across the world.  Tenley was one of several libraries that day which celebrated the event, and this was the first year that the library participated.

To celebrate International Games Day, Tenley had a Mario Kart tournament, using the game Mario Kart 8 for the Nintendo Wii U.  Fourteen tweens and teens raced through a variety of wacky locales in groups of three.

While they were waiting for their turn or for the results, idle gamers had fun using the library’s variety of board games. After everyone had finished their preliminary races, the program manager tallied up the results and awarded prizes in order from the highest scoring to lowest scoring participants. The top four players then got to race each for a special gift card prize.

All the participants said they loved playing the games and wanted to do more events like this in the future.  Because of their enthusiasm, Tenley Library will now be having a Family Game Time program each month where participants will have two hours to test their gaming skills. The first date will be Saturday, Jan. 17, and we hope to see you there!
