DC Public Library’s Special Collections is excited to announce the debut of a new digital archival collection in Dig DC, the Reports of the Commissioners of the District of Columbia.

These 198 volumes contain reports compiled by numerous D.C. government offices and presented to Congress by the three-member Board of Commissioners annually. They provide a unique, comprehensive, and incredibly detailed glimpse into DC life and government spanning more than 50 years.

A majority of the volumes consist of annual statistical charts and summaries of annual activities ranging from city expenditures to residential demographic data to birth, death, and illness statistics. Some reports also include neighborhood maps, illustrations, diagrams and photographs.

The Reports of the Commissioners of the District of Columbia were digitized from microfilm and are available to view in the Internet Archive through Dig DC at: digdc.dclibrary.org/cdm/landingpage/collection/p16808coll8
