'Emperor of All Maladies'
New documentary on WETA
Cancer. It is a frightening diagnosis to hear from a doctor and it is a life changer. Perhaps you or someone you know has been affected by cancer.
In The Emperor of All Maladies by Dr. Siddhartha Mukherjee, the "biography" of cancer is traced from its documented appearance in antiquity until the present day. The book also explores how cancer was treated, the experiments and breakthrough treatments, and the effects of cancer on people's lives.
Dr. Mukherjee was awarded the 2011 Pultizer Prize for General Nonfiction.
The book is the basis for the new documentary Cancer: The Emperor of All Maladies, directed by Barak Goodman, Ken Burns executive producer, which will air at 9 p.m. on Monday, March 30 on WETA.
Copies of the book are available throughout the library system.
