DC Public Library to Help Showcase Co-working and Collaboration in Libraries at 2015 SXSW Interactive

At this year’s 2015 South by Southwest (SXSW) Interactive conference, Librarian Nicholas Kerelchuk will represent the DC Public Library on a panel that discusses ways government leaders, social entrepreneurs, funders and non-profits may look to our nation’s libraries as partners in collaborative economic development.  Fox 5 News Washington profiled the Library invitation yesterday.

Kerelchuk is the manager of the Library’s Digital Commons and Dream Lab.  Since opening in 2013, the Dream Lab has been hailed as an example of libraries that are creating dynamic hubs for budding entrepreneurs to innovate, collaborate and launch successful ventures. More than 80 local entrepreneurial projects have used the Dream Lab, including MapStory, an online social mapping platform that empowers people to map historical change over time.

At SXSW, Kerelchuk will join Jonathan Marino, director of content and strategy for MapStory; and Larra Clark, deputy director of the American Library Association’s Office for Information Technology Policy on the panel.
